Mobility Worldwide MO-Columbia update

“Birds of a feather flock together” is an observable phenomenon. John Wesley (founder of the Methodist Church) put it more theologically, “If your heart is as my heart, give me your hand.” The Orphan Grain Train (OGT) of Norfolk, NE, is an experienced, dedicated and proven mission agency. We have been bonded together in service for 9 or so years. Their basic task is to receive items needed by God’s “least of these” around the world and to ship those items to cooperative NGOs at the spot where needed. OGT is Lutheran based, but broadly ecumenical.

2012 at OGT’s annual celebration – their founder, Clayton Andrews, and Mel. Gary, our current executive director, just went to this year’s celebration.

They have huge warehouse facilities in Norfolk, and an equally huge cadre of dedicated volunteers. Their fiscal year starts June 1, and their last year’s report includes:
*** 208 full shipments of mission supplies were shipped within the USA and to other countries – 60 more than the year before.
*** 101 full semi-truck loads to domestic locations. Recently, I am sure, they are very active in the Houston and Irma storms.
*** 107 Forty-foot containers to overseas locations. They ship many of our Mobility Carts and other mission items.
*** 3,052,998 Mercy Meals and 1,255,896 Kids Against Hunger were shipped worldwide and in the USA.
*** 416,630 # of edible beans and corn, plus 679 pallets of dry/wet refrigerated food, and 44,450 # of potatoes were shipped worldwide and domestically.

*** 28 of the overseas shipments included some of our Mobility Carts and the sewing machines and materials from The Container Project at our warehouse.

A mother helped after the earthquake in Haiti. OGT sent dozens of our carts after the quake.

So, you can see why we followed Wesley’s admonition. We complement each other’s work. It is a win-win-win opportunity. We like those odds.
