Give the Gift of Mobility

Most of us never give a second thought to mobility. However, for more than 70 million[WHO] people in developing countries who are unable to walk, it is a major concern. These individuals have suffered the loss of mobility because of landmine explosions, illness, birth defects, disease, or accidents.

The three-wheeled, hand-powered carts manufactured by PET Florida (Mobility Worldwide–Penney Farms and other Mobility Worldwide Affiliates), provide a means for these physically-challenged individuals to achieve this gift. (The carts are often referred to as PETs, meaning Personal Energy Transportation, as well as Mobility Carts.)

In the fall of 2022, two talented musicians, Samwel Wanjau and David Chanzera, who work for Partners for Care in Kenya, were recorded in a video of them singing the beautiful song, “You Raise Me Up.” Photos of Mobility Carts made at PET Florida–Penney Farms were featured, depicting “before and after” pictures of the recipients. Three hundred sixteen carts were shipped to Kenya in 2022 that were made at Penney Farms, and Partners for Care is systematically trying to reach those who are mobility disabled in the entire country of Kenya. Many Mobility Worldwide Affiliates are contributing carts to this endeavor.
Take a few minutes to view the following 2020 video made for Penney Farms. It was produced by Robert Rooy, an independent documentary film maker and brother of Sid Rooy, a resident of Penney Retirement Community near Jacksonville, FL. The first part offers a view of the urgent need for these mobility carts and the second, how that need is being met at the Penney Farms affiliate.
